While he doesn't always succeed, especially lately, Guy Ritchie can boast of having created some pretty entertaining monsters in the cinema and on the small screen. After collaborating with Netflix and Paramount+, the director returns for Apple TV+ to a genre that is far too discreet for our tastes: the adventure story à la Indiana Jones or The Mummy. We had Uncharted in February 2022 and The Dial of Destiny in 2023, but nothing exciting enough to make us consider a career change to become an archaeologist and travel the world in search of iconic artifacts. Does Guy Ritchie finally have something to tickle our souls as big kids passionate about breathtaking stunts and equally breathtaking settings? The trailer for Fountain of Youth, a fairly transparent title which confirms that the symbol of immortality continues to fascinate the film industry, wants to give us the impression that yes.
The story follows a brother and sister on an epic journey across the world in search of the legendary Fountain of Youth. History buffs, they embark on an adventure that could lead them to discover the secret of immortality. Along the way, they should meet a number of characters ready to put a spanner in the works. Car chases, jumps into the void, and acrobatic tricks on the roof of a train—there's no doubt about it: the emphasis is firmly on action and entertainment on a grand scale. The film, which is set to be released on Apple TV+, intends to wow us. The platform hasn't spared any expense when it comes to casting either...
Natalie Portman and John Krasinski
Guy Ritchie has recruited Natalie Portman and John Krasinski to play the heroes of this film. The latter has made action his mainstay since appearing in Jack Ryan on Prime Video. He is also set to a return to the character's role, at the cinema under the impetus of Amazon MGM Studios. For her part, Natalie Portman had not indulged in the blockbuster exercise since Thor: Love and Thunder in 2022.
Krasinski and Portman will give the cue to equally illustrious personalities, starting with Domhnall Gleeson, Eiza Gonzalez and Laz Alonso. Stanley Tucci will also be on the trip. Behind the scenes, James Vanderbilt acts as screenwriter. The appointment is already set for May 23 on Apple TV+. While the platform can boast of having produced critically and popularly acclaimed series, the film side is a little more complicated. These family and action offerings are far from unanimously acclaimed. We can hope that Guy Ritchie has found a way to surprise us, he who didn't work miracles with his Ministry of Dirty War or Operation Fortune.
