With 8 years of Android updates, this version of the Galaxy S25 breaks a new record

Samsung is once again pushing the boundaries when it comes to Android updates with its Galaxy S25 Enterprise Edition, which benefits from eight years of software support. This will make it the first Galaxy smartphone with such longevity, allowing it to be updated up to Android 23.

Eight years of Android updates and enhanced security for the Galaxy S25 Enterprise Edition

This special version of the Galaxy S25, called the "Enterprise Edition," is no different from the standard models on its technical specifications. It shares the same hardware architecture (Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, 12GB of RAM and 120Hz AMOLED display), but is aimed at a professional audience. Beyond its unprecedented software support duration of eight years of Android updates and guaranteed security patches until January 2032, Samsung offers other exclusive features this version.

Indeed, it directly integrates Microsoft Office and Google Cloud, but also and above all the "Knox Suite", a range of professional tools developed by Samsung, offered for one year, which includes the following services:

  • Knox Manage: a mobile device management tool that allows IT managers to remotely control remotely manage the settings, applications, and network connections of each smartphone.
  • Knox Capture: a solution that transforms the smartphone into a professional barcode reader and allows the collected data to be integrated into business applications.
  • Knox Remote Support: this service allows IT teams to remotely intervene on employees' devices, to assist them in the event of a technical problem, perform a diagnosis, or modify settings.
  • Knox Suite Console: a unified interface that centralizes the management of other Knox services. It offers an overview of device fleets and automates many tasks, such as updates. update or usage restrictions.

Soon the same update duration on consumer versions?

The models dedicated to businesses and those that can be purchased by the general public are technically identical. From there, hoping that Samsung will increase its software support from 7 years, as is currently the case, to 8 years, is only a small step. This would allow the Korean company to become a leader in the field, thus overtaking Google and Apple.

Last year, the Enterprise version of the Galaxy S24 had 7 years of updates, the same as the consumer version. While there's little chance that Samsung will add an extra year of updates to its Galaxy S25, this new feature is encouraging for the future. It remains to be seen whether the devices will be technically capable of handling future software versions, which, with AI, require increasingly more computing power and RAM.
