Are you tired of your vacation photos hanging around in every gallery? WhatsApp is testing an option to lock your messages. Perfect for confidential messages... or compromising memes.
What if your WhatsApp exchanges became as private as a diary? The application is working on a new tool to limit the spread of your messages and media. Discovered in the Android beta version, this feature called "advanced privacy" would prevent recipients from automatically saving your photos or videos to their gallery.
More than just an option, this anti-leak shield also blocks the export of relevant chat histories. A response to users who share sensitive information, codes, professional documents, and who want to avoid wild sharing.

Protected galleries and locked histories
The principle is simple: activate the option in the settings, and your messages will no longer pile up in the contacts' photo album. No more unwanted screenshots or transfers to the cloud. Better still, protected discussions cannot be exported to text files, a flaw often exploited to extract data.
For now, reserved for ephemeral messages, this confidentiality This enhanced feature will soon be extended to all chats. The icing on the cake: it will coexist with the classic transfer. Your friends will still be able to share your jokes, but not archive your secrets without your consent.

According to WABetaInfo, the device would even prohibit participants from interacting with Meta AI in these discussions. An additional layer to prevent leaks via AI. But be careful: these settings remain optional. Everyone is free to lock their sendings... or to continue to flood groups with animated GIFs.
Still in the testing phase, the feature could evolve before its official release. One thing is certain: WhatsApp is banking on trust. It remains to be seen if this will be enough in the face of screenshots, which are still possible. In the meantime, your photos of cute kittens finally have a chance to remain confidential.
