The world's most used instant messaging app continues to evolve. This time, it's voice and video calls that are getting an interface update. The WhatsApp app for Android, in its beta version, is currently experimenting with a series of new features. Between new buttons and options to strengthen privacy, here's what you might soon see on the app.
A new interface for WhatsApp calls
WhatsApp is about to simplify the management of incoming calls with a new interface. In the latest beta version (2.25.10.16) spotted by WABetaInfo, three buttons appear directly in the notification panel: "Answer", "Decline" and "Mute".
This improves the clarity of the interface, but also the responsiveness, notably thanks to the "Mute" button which allows you to answer a call while instantly disabling your microphone. A feature that can be useful in situations where you can't speak right away, but you still want to answer quickly (in a noisy environment, for example).
More control during video calls
Another welcome new feature: the ability to accept a video call while disabling the camera. A practical option for those who want to maintain a little discretion about their location. Enough to preserve a little privacy without rejecting the call.
Finally, WhatsApp is introducing emoji reactions during video calls. It will now be possible to express your mood visually, without interrupting (or almost) the person you are talking to. These features are currently reserved for beta testers, but it is only a matter of time before they are rolled out to all app users.
