[Update] FarCry 4 censored, more than 10 years after its release

In November 2014, Ubisoft released the new installment in the FarCry series. Just two years after the release of FarCry 3, which was considered by many to be the best installment in the saga, Ubisoft invited us to travel to the Himalayan mountains and the fictional region of Kyrat, under the rule of the dictator Pagan Min.

As with FarCry 3, some scenes in the game featured adult content with scenes of nudity. More than ten years after the game's release, these scenes have just been censored.

FarCry 4: We're packing everything up

UPDATE – APRIL 7, 2025:

A few hours after the controversy began, Ubisoft quickly reacted by issuing a press release and lifting the censorship of the game FarCry4, explaining that this update was only intended for the Japanese versions of the game:

ORIGINAL ARTICLE:

A few days ago, Ubisoft deployed A new update for FarCry 3 and FarCry 4, more than ten years after their respective releases. On Reddit, some users were surprised to discover that this update aims to censor the games. At least, to censor FarCry 4.

Indeed, all the nudity scenes simply no longer exist. For example, the sequences with Yuma or Ajay are now different and the characters are no longer naked, but covered with clothing. This is the case, for example, in Shanath's arena, where the character is no longer naked, he is now covered in a loincloth.

So, while in principle this doesn't change anything in the game, the story, or the plot, it's still surprising to see such a decision, especially 10 years later.

For the moment, we don't know if FarCry3 is also affected by this censorship. Ubisoft's title received an update on March 31. Several players are already on the spot to check whether the sequences, especially with Citra, have been modified or not.
