Lying about your age or identity is child's play behind a screen, and this is also the case on a dating app. However, while seduction can be a game, it is prohibited for minors in such a context. To limit abuse, Tinder will extend identity verification to more countries, including France. It will, however, remain optional. An attempt to win back the hearts of singles who are increasingly less attracted to the app?
Already in effect in several countries
Match Group initially proposed This check will be rolled out in Australia and New Zealand before being rolled out in several American countries (United States, Mexico, Brazil) as well as in Europe, the United Kingdom. By the end of the summer, identity verification will also be available in France, as well as in Germany, Spain, and Italy. Note that in Japan, due to the country's laws, identity verification is a prerequisite for using the app.
The verification process is fairly standard. Users must provide an ID document (ID card, driver's license, or passport) or take a video selfie – ideally both. They also have the option to authenticate photos from their profile. At the end of the process, they receive a badge. Those who complete the complete procedure earn the best ticket: a blue badge, according to a previous press release from Match Group.
Identify your profile to generate matches
The data transmitted allows Tinder to authenticate photos and verify the date of birth. The application thus validates the profile and ensures that the age corresponds to the one entered. In the United States, verification goes even further: it ensures that the person is not registered on the sex offender registry (SOR). In France, Tinder specifies that data (name, date of birth, photos) are retained until the profile is deleted.
While this verification remains optional, the pilot phase in Australia and New Zealand revealed a significant advantage. In fact, identified users received 67% more matches than those who remained anonymous. On an app where every detail counts to maximize your chances of meeting people, what is presented as optional could quickly become essential. In the meantime, to maximize your success, there's always the "AI call" joker to select your best photos!
