Switch 2: Third-party games should look similar to PS4 and Xbox One games

Since the official presentation of the Switch 2 last week, information has been pouring in from all sides regarding the next console from "Big N". While the manufacturer categorically refuses to talk about the specs of its console, its CPU, its GPU, but also its various characteristics (such as FPS in portable mode, 4K Native or Upscale) and remains very vague on the use of DLSS... We are obliged to stick to the initial analyses of the specialized media.

And, precisely, on the side from Digital Foundry, according to the first elements in our possession, and given the first trailers, the Switch2 should offer us renderings similar to PS4 and Xbox One games.

The Switch 2, a rendering similar to the 2013/2016 consoles?

Switch 2: Third-party games should look similar to PS4 and Xbox One games

As we know, Nintendo has been giving up the race to technology and no longer seeks graphic performance, but innovation.

However, when a console is displayed at a steep price of 469.99 euros, a price close to current consoles. That it ultimately offers very little innovation compared to its previous model. And when 90% of the games that have been presented are games already released for 2, 3, 4 or even 5 years on current consoles, we have the right to expect a lot.

Unfortunately, it seems that Nintendo's silence is really not a good sign. According to the first reports from Digital Foundry, the Nintendo Switch2 would offer visual renderings similar to the PS4 and Xbox One of 2013. The channel therefore relied on the first trailers and of course specifies that its analyses are intended to give us a first glimpse and a first idea. Of course, this is not their definitive report.

The first title analyzed is therefore on the game Final Fantasy VII Remake. In terms of visual rendering and resolution, the title would be similar to the game on PS4. The main difference is that the effects and lighting improvements of the PS5 version would be included in the Switch 2 version, allowing for a slightly better-looking game than on PS4. The second game analyzed is Hogwarts Legacy. For the latter, it would manage to outperform the PS4 version, despite a lower definition. The Switch 2 version would offer an upgrade. the scale offering a better overall quality of the game which is thus sharper.

Finally, the third game, one of the most anticipated: Elden Ring. For the latter, the Switch 2 version would be clearly similar to the PS4 version. We would be on a game with a very close definition, but with a better drawing distance and better lighting. Digital Foundry specifies however that it is quite complicated to analyze FromSoftware's game since the images provided by Nintendo are not of good quality.

As a reminder, according to Digital Foundry, CyberPunk2077 would suffer from major optimization issues on Switch2 with quality drops and resolution drops to 540p and 24FPS. For its part, CD Projekt Red has already reacted, confirming that development is not finished and that the game will be improved before its release on June 5th.
