Split Fiction explodes three world records in less than a month

Split Fiction explodes three world records in less than a month

On March 6th, Josef Fares and his Hazelight studio released their new game, four years after the incredible It Takes Two. This game? It's Split Fiction.

It is quite simply a real gem and one of the best games of the beginning of the year. The game is a true critical and commercial success, managing to surpass the (already crazy) figures of It Takes Two.

The success is so high for Split Fiction, that we have just learned that the game already holds three world records!

Hazelight among the greatest

Split Fiction explodes three world records in less than a month

Beautiful, fun, with gameplay that never stops being renewed, touching, Split Fiction is the very definition of a video game. A true love letter from the Hazlight studio, as was already the case in 2021 with It Takes Two which won the GOTY (Game of the Year) title.

Today, we learn that Split Fiction is following the same path. The game has broken three world records in less than a month:

  • most played local co-op video game on Steam
  • best-selling local co-op video game within 48 hours of its release
  • best-selling local co-op video game within a week of its launch

This is the description of the three world records that have just been validated by the Guinness World Record. In just two days, Split Fiction had already reached 1 million copies sold. In one week, that was over 2 million games sold. Knowing that It Takes Two had achieved the feat (for an independent studio) sell 20 million copies in four years.

It's a very good start, more than encouraging for this new game from Josef Fares. Moreover, the success should continue with a film adaptation in the coming years. But for its part, the Hazelight studio has no time to waste. Just a few days after the game's release, Josef Fares confirmed that the teams were already working on the next game. And we can't wait to see it!
