Spider-Man-Brand New Day: Why did Marvel choose this comics to relaunch Tom Holland and the man-man?

Brand New Day. A brand new day, in French. Said (or rather read) like that, one could logically say that Marvel Studios didn't go to too much trouble choosing a title for the fourth adventures of Peter Parker, Tom Holland's version, and the most beloved Marvel superhero in the four corners of the globe. Spiderman: Brand New Day is the official name of what was still called Spiderman 4 a few days ago before Sony took advantage of Cinemacon to reveal more. A title with a new artistic direction, as if to stand out from the old trilogy, completed with great fanfare, with a huge box office success with No Way Home and start something new.

This is obviously the joint goal of Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios given the state in which Peter Parker was left during his last theatrical release. The latter saw his identity completely erased from the memory of all the inhabitants of his universe (ours). He must resume his life, without Aunt May, Ned and MJ, by taking a shabby apartment in the heart of New York. Here is Peter starting from scratch, and this is where the choice of Brand New Day makes perfect sense. It is first and foremost a reference to the comic book of the same name, which will therefore serve as the basis for inspiration for the film.

A golden opportunity to introduce the Osborn family?

Brand New Day follows the comic book One More Day, which greatly contributed to the character's overhaul. In the latter, Peter Parker, who revealed his true identity During the events of Civil War, he tries at all costs to save the life of Aunt May, who was seriously injured during the famous civil war between superheroes. After probing Dr. Strange, unable to help her – and even trying to go back in time, almost killing himself in the process – Spider-Man ends up making a deal with Mephisto, who appears to him in the form of a little girl, to save May. The latter agrees, in exchange for one thing: that Peter and Mary-Jane get married. The couple will comply, not without consequences. If May survives, the wedding is then erased by Mephisto, Spider-Man's real identity as well. And the little girl under whom Mephisto had revealed himself? She was none other than the future child of the couple who will be wiped off the map after these events. Peter finds himself facing a return to his roots: a cold and distant relationship with his lifelong love.

Brand New Day is thus a new adventure for the character, who finds himself once again at Aunt May's side, in a city where the Daily Bugle is in serious difficulty financial, J. Jonah Jameson is at his worst and is going to suffer a heart attack, Harry Osborn is alive and well and a whole new batch of characters will come to put their two cents in Peter's new daily life. If the conclusion of No Way Home lends itself to this soft reboot of the character – supposed to be more mature, more capable of being a future framework of the Avengers for example, to the detriment of his teenage version in the previous trilogy – it will now be necessary to determine what Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios will want to adapt from the source product. In any case, this may be the perfect opportunity to introduce the characters of Norman and Harry Osborn, for example... Answer on July 29, 2026 and obviously a little earlier here, depending on leaks and filming revelations in the coming months.
