The trick is well-known: for a few euros more, an operator "offers" you additional GB of data. SFR and Bouygues are known for using this technique, which allows them to earn additional income without it costing them too much. Orange is inspired by it with a proposal sent to several Livebox Play customers.
Orange's sleight of hand
The email, intercepted by Alloforfait, offers the subscriber the opportunity to upgrade to the Livebox Up Fiber plan in order to benefit from a speed of up to 2 Gbit/s download speed, and 800 Mbit/s upload speed. Customers can also get a Wi-Fi 6 repeater on request, as well as a second TV decoder (which was already available with Livebox Play). This equipment will still require a €10 provisioning fee.
Orange is adding a €5 per month discount on Netflix for six months, even if you already subscribe to the streaming service. Who wouldn't want such capabilities to take advantage of? internet background?
Except that this isn't a gift from Orange. This commercial proposition isn't necessarily uninteresting in itself, but the upgrade is billed at 3 euros more per month. It is of course possible to refuse the offer, but then you will have to go hunting for a new access provider (a process that can be carried out within four months of Orange's communication).
You should also keep in mind that if you want to keep Orange as your ISP but switch to For a lower offer, the switch will be charged 49 euros.
