It's not easy to keep up with Nintendo news right now! Between the endless announcements like the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal and game rumors, fans have plenty to keep their heads spinning. Luckily, what better way to relax than with a little trip down memory lane? The Nintendo Switch Online catalog is expanding today with three cult games to (re)discover.
The next classic Nintendo Switch Online games are available
Nintendo continues to quietly update its online service. This week, it's retro-gaming fans' turn to be spoiled. Three new Sega Mega Drive games (Genesis in the United States) are now available for Nintendo Switch Online + Additional Pack subscribers.
The first title to remember is obviously Streets of Rage, one of the Mega Drive's most iconic beat'em ups. Released in 1991, this side-scrolling fighting game remains an absolute benchmark of the genre. You play as vigilantes determined to cleaning up the streets of a crime-ridden city, all accompanied by a now legendary soundtrack by Yuzo Koshiro. A simple but incredibly effective style that has left its mark on a whole generation of players.
Alongside it, we find Super Thunder Blade, a helicopter shoot'em up typical of the arcades of the time. The player must pilot a combat vehicle through urban or desert settings, avoiding enemy fire and demonstrating sharp reflexes. A demanding game that has retained its retro charm. Finally, ESWAT: City Under Siege completes this selection with a futuristic atmosphere. Here, you play as an elite police officer who, over the course of the game, equips himself with ultra-powerful robotic armor to face gangs and mechanical creatures. Less well-known than Streets of Rage, but just as representative of the Sega style of the time, ESWAT remains an original title that is worth a detour, especially for fans of old-school action games. Only good things on Nintendo Switch Online.
