Nintendo Switch: New games leaked, including the return of a beloved franchise

Since its grand presentation during the last Nintendo Direct, the Nintendo Switch 2 has been the talk of the town. But its big sister is still reminding us of our fond memories via a leak of a development kit for the latter. This allows us to discover builds of games that have either been abandoned or prototypes of titles that could still be coming. Among them, we have the mention of a beloved license that has not been heard from for a very long time. We dissect all of this for you.

A leak of unreleased Nintendo Switch games full of implications

À Starting June 5th, the venerable Nintendo Switch will slowly but surely be taking a well-deserved retirement, with future games focusing on its little sister. According to a leak of a development kit for the console, it seems that it still had some notable games in store. We owe this discovery to capitalggamer1 on Reddit. This post reports on old game builds for the first Nintendo Switch, as follows. There are some already released games, but also others that are new, which are of interest to us here.

We thus discover a prototype of a Ridge Racer game, an iconic racing game license from Bandai Namco launched in 1993, and which we have not seen since 2016 with Draw & Drift. An unreleased game mixing Lego and Civilization was also discovered, as well as a game developed by Retro Studios (Metroid Prime 4), called Project Harmony, but since abandoned. These three titles were apparently aimed at the first Nintendo Switch of the name, but ultimately did not see the light of day.

This is in any case certain for Project Harmony, Retro Studios having then moved on other projects. However, it is possible that the other two online games, Ridge Racer and Lego/Civilization, may finally arrive on Nintendo Switch 2. Finally, note that the leaked builds are to some extent playable on emulators. However, it is preferable not to attempt this exercise, given the early state of the leaked builds, and the potentially illegal nature of such a maneuver.
