A few hours before the official presentation of the Nintendo Switch 2, a new video sows doubt... or rather hope. What if the Joy-Con of the next console could function as a mouse? The idea may seem strange. However, it comes back insistently. And this time, the images seem to support this theory. The presentation on April 2nd is approaching, we should know more soon.
An animation that does not go unnoticed for the Nintendo Switch 2
The scene lasts barely a few seconds. It appears in a short promotional video, published in Japan via the Nintendo Today application. We see three different configurations of the Nintendo Switch 2: portable mode, docked with grip, and finally, in table mode with the Joy-Con placed next to it.
It is this last shot that intrigues. One of the Joy-Con is lying on its side, like a mouse ready to be used. A detail that recalls a previous video dating from January, where the controllers slid on the ground with a very fluid gesture, evoking new… a mouse.
Optical sensor rumors
For several months, some leaks have been talking about an optical sensor integrated into the new Joy-Con. This component, similar to that of a computer mouse, would allow the detection of movements when placed flat on a surface. Nintendo has not confirmed anything for now. But the repetition of these small visual cues is starting to weigh in the balance. It would no longer be simply a stylistic effect. This "mouse mode" could well be a real function designed to support certain uses.
If this functionality is confirmed, the possibilities are interesting. More precise menu control, compatibility with strategy games, touch mini-games, web browsing... This mode could offer a new way to play or interact with the interface.
It would also be a modern nod to the Wii and its infrared pointer, which had left its mark on its era. With this choice, Nintendo would once again confirm its taste for unexpected ideas, where others rely on raw power.
