Mewgenics: First trailer for the game from the creator of The Binding of Isaac

The Binding of Isaac is one of the most iconic indie and roguelike games of all time. Edmund McMillen and Florian Himsl's title, released in September 2011, has received several expansions since its launch, the latest being Repentance+ in 2024.

The Binding of Isaac has even had an online co-op mode playable up to four players since last November. However, if you're waiting for The Binding of Isaac 2, you might want to lower your expectations. Creator Edmund McMillen is busy working on an entirely different title called Mewgenics. A first trailer for the title has just been revealed.

A first trailer for Mewgenics, the game from the creator of The Binding of Isaac

Mewgenics is the new game from Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel, who already collaborated on The End is Nigh. Originally, it was to be developed by Team Meat, which Edmund McMillen was a part of. Mewgenics, initially conceived as a sequel to Super Meat Boy, was ultimately canceled in 2016, but Edmund McMillen managed to save the project following his departure from Team Meat.

We finally discover what Mewgenics looks like thanks to the game's first truly crazy trailer, in which cats seem to be in all their states. Fans of The Binding of Isaac and Super Meat Boy will recognize Edmund McMillen's touch at a glance.

Mewgenics is a tactical RPG and rogue-like in which you play as a team of cats. "Improve your team as you venture further and further from home, collect unique items, defeat epic bosses, gain mutations, and return home to breed and improve your bloodline in this turn-based cat roguelike," the game's Steam description reads.

There are six different classes and over 200 crazy enemies and bosses to take on. Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel promise over 200 hours of gameplay and plenty of bloodshed like in The Binding of Isaac.

Warning, Mewgenics is a tactical RPG, so you'll need to move from square to square during turn-based combat. You can see what the game's boss battles look like on Edmund McMillen's YouTube channel. Mewgenics is still scheduled for release in 2025 on PC (Steam).
