Mass Effect 5: Very reassuring news amidst the chaos

Since the turbulent release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, BioWare has found itself in a particularly delicate situation. However, this would not unduly affect the future of the always anticipated, but also always distant, Mass Effect 5. In any case, this is what Michael Gamble, the game's project leader, recently put forward, who still seems confident, despite the circumstances.

Mass Effect 5 maintains its course as best it can through the stars

The very first announcement of Mass Effect 5 dates back to The Game Awards 2020. A little over four years later, BioWare's next game is still in pre-production. The studio's full attention was previously focused on Dragon Age: The Veilguard, unfortunately with the disappointing results we know, especially in the eyes of its publisher, Electronic Arts. Contrary to what one might have believed, the end of development on this title did not translate into a more serious start to work on its famous space franchise. Instead, many developers were either fired or reallocated to other, more pressing Electronic Arts projects, such as Battlefield 6.

However, Michael Gamble, project lead on Mass Effect 5, still claims that it is indeed BioWare's new priority. Even though it is only in pre-production, Electronic Arts has clearly not yet decided to pull the plug. This is despite the studio's successive failures with Mass Effect Andromeda, Anthem, and therefore The Veilguard. On X.com, Michael Gamble even indicated to a user asking him that the aforementioned changes within BioWare did not change his plans, and that he "even came out of a meeting" about Mass Effect 5.

So there is still some hope despite a certain spatial vacuum. According to the latest news, this particularly anticipated sequel should not be released before 2028 or 2029. However, we can bet that, once Battlefield 6 is released, the BioWare developers called upon for the war effort should be able to return to the creation of Mass Effect 5.
