The League of Legends fighting game 2XKO will soon be playable thanks to a closed alpha this month. Unfortunately, at the moment, only residents of Brazil, Canada, and the United States will be able to get their hands on it. Later this year, RIOT Games will also launch a new game in a completely different genre that continues to be debated: Project K. After negative feedback, the company has revised its copy and here are the latest details shared.
League of Legends Riftbound is coming in 2025... but not everywhere
Director Dave Guskin and executive producer Chengran Chai have given an update on Project K: The League of Legends Trading Card Game. A temporary name that should now be forgotten since this new project has been officially renamed Riftbound. On the other hand, the principle hasn't changed and it's still a physical LoL card game to collect and play, designed above all to be an experience to be shared with others. What's more, you can count on a competitive dimension.
" We're excited to introduce a collectible card game for those of you who want to sit down and play with friends, connect around the table while being immersed in the rich world of League of Legends. We decided to make Riftbound the best of both worlds. A game that's easy to teach and play with your friends, and a strategic and exciting game in high-level tournaments.".
While Riftbound The League of Legends Trading Card Game seems like a good idea on paper, this next game still makes players angry. And the main reason for this is the abandonment of Legends of Runeterra, which is definitely not going down well. "We have a LoL trading card game. It's called Legends of Runeterra"; "Justice for Legends of Runeterra"; "So it's not possible to work on Legends of Runeterra but Riot is willing to make another card game that they'll most likely abandon after a year?" can be read in reaction to the latest video.
League of Legends Riftbound arrives in 2025... but not everywhere
What irritates some Legends of Runettera fans is that Riftbound - The League of Legends Trading Card Game also recycles illustrations directly from the title abandoned by RIOT. On the other hand, after criticizing the card visuals, some are happy with the progress made by the company. "The cards are fantastic! Thanks for taking the time to work on the design, it paid off!"; "The card design is much better.".
The League of Legends trading card game will be available in the summer in China, in October 2025 in many English-speaking countries, and in 2026 elsewhere... including France, certainly. For launch, Riftbound will have an initial "Origins" set consisting of more than 300 cards "with pre-constructed decks for some classic champions such as Jinx, Viktor, and Lee Sin." "All decks contain a Legend card," explains RIOT. On the menu, you'll find rare and secret cards, among others, "illustrated by some of Riot's incredible artists in their own unique style," including Jinx's "Super Mega Death Rocket."
Of course, League of Legends Riftbound will also be selling booster packs, and a "Proving Grounds" Starter Pack for beginners. A box designed for 2 to 4 players, it will contain starter decks featuring Lux, Annie, Master Yi, and Garen, iconic LoL characters.
