If you've noticed that some extensions have disappeared from your browser, it's not a bug. Google has decided to cut off access to several widely used tools on Chrome. Here are the five main victims and what you can do about them. instead.
In March 2025, Google rolled out a major update to its Chrome browser. The goal: to move to the new Manifest v3 extension system, which is supposed to be more secure and faster. But this change also has an immediate effect for users: many old extensions, even very popular ones, have been removed without warning. As a result, millions of Internet users find themselves without their favorite tools.
Some of the removed extensions were nevertheless among the most useful on the web. The famous ad blocker uBlock Origin, for example, was removed because it relied on technology that had become incompatible. It remains available on Firefox, Edge, and Opera, but no longer on Chrome. Others like Ghostery Private Search or Papaly are still accessible... but only via their website, sometimes with less comfort or more ads.

The removal of these extensions is part of a broader policy by Google to secure its browser. Manifest v3 prohibits certain technical functions deemed too powerful, including those that allow you to block or modify web content in depth. But this choice does not make everyone happy. Many users are considering leaving Chrome for Firefox or Edge, which retain more flexibility. In the meantime, it's best to check your favorite extensions: they might have disappeared without you realizing it.
