It was time for Riot Games to get into the trading card game. It's done, as the company has just unveiled Riftbound, the name of its famous Project K, which has been in the works for a while. In its presentation video, the company shares the name, the first visuals, and the first details of its game modes.
Playable 1v1, Riftbound will be a classic TCG, but also deliberately original thanks to its official variants mentioned by the designers. Collectors will be able to experiment with free-for-alls and a 2v2 mode. Of course, like any self-respecting TCG, the cards can simply be hunted down to find the rarest and soon the most expensive versions.
Riftbound will obviously have regular expansions bringing new champions with each update. The developers have revealed the heroes who will be at the center of the first set called Origins. As expected, it features iconic champions from the original League of Legends, such as Jinx and Yasuo. The set will contain over 300 cards and will include pre-built decks based around the main champions.
The first card designs have also been revealed, and we can expect visual quality. We will obviously be treated to rarer illustrations, designed by some of Riot Games' most renowned artists with their own graphic style. No designs have been shared in this video.
Where and when to get Riftbound cards?
At the moment, it is unknown where the card game plans to be stocked, but the developers guarantee that the most important local stores, all over the world, during 2025. However, this will be the English version, since the regional language versions (French is generally included) will be deployed in 2026.
The good news is that the following sets are ready or in preparation, so the launch should not be long. This collectible card game Playing is a good idea to expand the reach and universe of League of Legends, and reach a relatively new audience compared to video games and the Arcane series.
