Alexa+, Apple Intelligence, same battle. In both cases, not all the features announced during the presentations by Amazon and Apple are present at launch. Alexa+, unveiled with great fanfare at the end of February, is currently being rolled out in the United States (the new version of the assistant is not yet planned for Europe). But only owners of the new Echo Show models are affected; Fire TV and Echo Spot users will have to be patient. It should be remembered that this is the early access version, so not everything is in place yet.
Low-key launch for Amazon's assistant
This explains why several features are missing. Visual recognition of family members, which allows Alexa to identify people in the same household to assign them personalized tasks (such as walking the dog), is therefore missing for subscribers. As are creating children's stories, personalized gift suggestions, and meal orders. takeaway via Grubhub, or even web chat.
These absences are all the more unfortunate since these functions are heavily highlighted in Amazon's ad, despite Alexa+'s early access status. This is reminiscent of similar issues Apple experienced with the delay of "personalized Siri": the manufacturer had to withdraw an ad, which also earned it an advertising complaint. This is a lie. We hope for Amazon that the missing features of Alexa+ will appear very quickly!
Alexa+ also has a bad habit: the function that allows it to summarize a file or document doesn't know how to delete the file in question. More precisely, the user cannot delete it; they have to go through customer support, which doesn't guarantee complete deletion of the data associated with the documents. Let's hope the bug will be fixed soon!
Alexa+ is included in the Prime subscription. For non-subscribers, the assistant will be offered at $20 per month. During the early access period, access to the assistant is free.
