As we know, video games are about both new releases and endings, even for the biggest franchises. And this time, it's Final Fantasy that's affected, with the announcement of the end of a much-loved episode. Here's what you need to know about the subject.
This Final Fantasy is saying goodbye
Sad news for fans of mobile games and the Final Fantasy saga. Square Enix has just announced the upcoming closure of War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. The game will be permanently offline on May 29, 2025. Square Enix confirmed the news via an official message. After five years of service, the global version of the game will be discontinued. The reason? The publisher explains that it is becoming too difficult to maintain a quality experience over time. A "difficult" decision, according to the team, which warmly thanks all players for their loyalty.
Launched in 2020, War of the Visions was a spin-off of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. It offered tactical gameplay inspired by Final Fantasy Tactics, with beautiful staging and modern mechanics. The whole thing was based on a gacha system that allowed you to summon characters from across the FF universe.
Over time, the game had managed to attract a loyal player base, thanks in particular to numerous crossovers. We saw characters from FF7, FF8, FF13, and even FFX-2. Appreciated winks, which maintained interest in the title.
What will happen until closure
The servers for this Final Fantasy game will officially close on May 29, 2025 at 11:59 PM. In France, this corresponds to May 30 at 8:59 a.m.. Until then, the game will remain accessible and events will continue as planned. However, in-game purchases are already disabled. The premium currency, called Visiore, has not been for sale since the announcement. Once the game is closed, all account data will be erased. A classic measure, but important to keep in mind for those who wish to keep memories or verify their information before the end.
This closure marks another step in Square Enix's mobile strategy. In recent years, several games in the Final Fantasy franchise have seen the light of day on mobile... before quickly fading away. War of the Visions, however, was an exception, with regular support and real ambition.
