Dune 3: Denis Villeneuve considers giving Robert Pattinson a very important role

There's something new for Dune 3. Promised for release in December 2026, the third installment of Paul Atréides' adventures is in the starting blocks. While Denis Villeneuve hadn't intended to devote himself to adapting the novel Dune: Messiah for several years, and after having directed other projects, the audience's enthusiasm for his diptych convinced him to get back to work as quickly as possible. The script is written, filming is due to begin this year... A priori, the stars were aligned for the science fiction saga. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the time has come to finalize the casting. According to the American media, Villeneuve and his teams have set their sights on Robert Pattinson. The actor currently starring in Bong Joon-Ho's Mickey Mouse 17 could be given the role of an antagonist.

Face of the Opposition

According to sources close to the case, he could be the main villain in this film, which draws its inspiration from the second book in Frank Herbert's saga. In the pages, this protagonist, named Scytale, is one of the Secret Masters of the Bene Tleilax. This faction has not yet been shown to the saga's viewers, but is an essential component of the author's imagination. The Tleilaxu are humanoid creatures specialized in genetics. Scytale is what is called a Face Dancer, a being capable of modifying his appearance and imitating anyone. He will be among the many enemies of Paul, now installed on the throne.

As a reminder, The Messiah of Dune takes place 12 years after Paul Atreides' rise to power. His holy war has left thousands dead, but has allowed him to conquer numerous planets. More isolated than ever, the Emperor is haunted by visions of his own death. He has many enemies who are ready to do anything to regain control of the Spice. Scytale is one of these adversaries plotting to overthrow him.

A busy schedule

While the role has not yet been officially offered to Robert Pattinson, very busy with the upcoming return of his Batman with Matt Reeves and the filming of The Odyssey with Nolan, we have to admit that this choice seems particularly good. Mickey 17 has proven, once again, that Robert Pattinson is a chameleon capable of taking on multiple roles. From his voice to his gestures, the one who was revealed in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire has proven that nothing can resist him. It remains to be seen whether Denis Villeneuve will be added to the long list of directors who have approached him.

Filming for Dune: Messiah is scheduled to begin this summer. Warner Bros. hopes to deliver it to audiences on December 18, 2026 in the United States, and therefore probably on the 16th in France. This should be Denis Villeneuve's last foray into the universe. The Canadian director has already announced that he then wants to focus on other projects, including an adaptation of another science fiction classic: Appointment with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke.
