Chatgpt: Openai reopens the image generator to everyone ... and cause the subscribers to anger

Last week, OpenAI unveiled the new ChatGPT image generator. Powered by GPT-4o instead of Dall-E, the generator, dubbed "Images in ChatGPT," allows users to create high-quality images from scratch or from a photo.

The generator has been a huge success, so much so that OpenAI's servers have been heating up. As seen on social media, many internet users have used AI to produce images inspired by popular anime studios, such as Studio Ghibli.

Despite Overheating, OpenAI Opens Generator to Everyone

To prevent its servers from overheating, OpenAI has finally made the decision to cut off access to the generator to anyone who does not have a subscription. On his X account, CEO Sam Altman indicated that the deployment of the generator for "our free offer will unfortunately be delayed" for a while.".

A few days later, OpenAI decided to reopen access to the generator to everyone. Users who are happy with the free plan can generate images again. There are, however, restrictions to avoid intensive use. As the CEO of OpenAI explained, Internet users are limited to three images per day for the moment.

ChatGPT subscribers are angry

This decision has caused the incomprehension of subscribers to ChatGPT Plus or ChatGPT Pro, the two paid plans. They are still restricted in the number of images they can produce even though they pay for a monthly subscription. According to our findings, OpenAI still imposes a waiting time of a few minutes after a handful of visuals. It is still not possible to chain productions to high speed, to produce certain content or to obtain creations without a long waiting time.

ChatGPT often explains that "the tool I was using to generate the images has been disabled for the moment", and offers to guide us to do it ourselves "with simple software like Canva". In other cases, the AI even goes back to Dall-E, for very random and terribly imprecise results. We found ourselves for long minutes facing a wall... On X, an Internet user questions the advantages of the paid offer under these conditions.

On social networks, many subscribers deplore OpenAI's choice. The startup is accused of prioritizing free users to the detriment of people who have subscribed to a subscription... whose main selling point is the extended limits. Users would have liked the company to first resolve all the generator's operating problems before thinking about free users.
