Things are accelerating for Black Mirror. A few days after the official release of season 7, the platform is intensifying its promotional campaign with new images. On YouTube, Netflix has just shared a video that also reveals the titles of the six episodes scheduled for this new batch.
This is an opportunity to learn a little more about what the future holds for Charlie Brooker's anthology, which became a television landmark when it first aired on Channel 4 in 2011. We now know under what names the sequels to USS Callister and Bandersnatch will be offered. The return of Cristin Milioti was mentioned several months ago by the series creator, who promised viewers that they would learn more about the fate of Robert Daly's prisoners.
USS Callister... to infinity and beyond
USS Callister: Into Infinity will be the closing position of this new salvo. Cristin Milioti won't be the only one at the heart of this adventure, as Jimmi Simpson is also returning. He played James Walton, co-founder of Callister Inc., in the first episode. The story is expected to explore the consequences of locking up the clones created by Robert Daly in the first episode.
As a reminder, the co-founder of Callister Inc. used the DNA of his colleagues to create a reality inspired by Space Fleet (Star Trek) in which Daly is revered by his loved ones. When they discovered the truth about their existence, the crew members of the USS Callister rebelled and managed to incapacitate their torturer before continuing their interstellar adventures under Nanette's leadership.
Common People and the pop-ups
This season's opening will see a sick woman implanted with a chip to heal. According to the first images, this device will be able to control the emotions and feelings of its wearer. In this case, Rashida Jones will be the guinea pig.
However, it seems that the procedure is quite expensive and that the company in charge of its creation has come up with an unconventional way to cut costs. The character with the chip will become a giant billboard, a barely disguised parallel with the influence professions and the importance of parasocial connections for companies looking for new customers.
Bête Noire
The second episode is more mysterious and seems to revolve around a young woman struggling with doubts about one of her colleagues. The sequence focuses mainly on the phrase “Do you remember me?”, suggesting that it will be about memory and perhaps mental manipulation. Rosy McEwen and Sienna Kelly will be at the epicenter of the episode.
Eulogy and a touch of déjà vu
Paul Giamatti, riding high on the success of Winterbreak in 2023, will play a man in the prime of life who is given the opportunity to relive his memories with his wife. Thanks to technology whose specifics are not yet fully understood, he travels through his photos to relive key moments in his life. This story is reminiscent of La Belle Époque by Nicolas Bedos, released in 2019... with the addition of new technologies.
Hotel Reverie or taking your dreams for reality
When our dreams come to life... and become a film. This will be the subject of this episode, starring Issa Rae and Emma Corrin. In a hypothetical future, a company has created a machine capable of making its customers' dreams into a blockbuster. Using artificial intelligence, dreamers can interact with their subconscious and influence the course of events. But when the heroine seems to fall in love with one of the tenants in her dream, things are about to turn sour. Plaything, the episode where you probably won't be the hero
Seven years after the release of the film Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, the series returns to this universe with a new adventure. While the destiny of a young programmer in the 80s was in the hands of viewers in 2018, this time it will be a question of following a new hero in content that will clearly not be interactive.
We find Colin Ritman, facing a player who discovers that the characters he manipulates through his screen are real people. Will Poulter reprises his role while Peter Capaldi appears to lend his features to a mysterious antagonist.
So, see you on Netflix from April 10th to discover this new season of Black Mirror. The series is eagerly awaited, it is one of the most popular brands among viewers of the American platform.
