Recently announced, the live-action Zelda film is already generating a lot of buzz. Indeed, with its release date barely shared, rumors are rife about its filming schedule, content, potential actors, etc. The famous insider and leaker Daniel Richtman has added his stone to the edifice by revealing information that could define Nintendo's entire strategy.
On his Patreon (accessible via subscription), he explains that he has news regarding the release, not of the first, but of the potential second and third Zelda films planned for later. According to him, 3 productions are already in Nintendo's pipeline, with releases spread over 6 years. He bases this on the contracts of the main roles that would have been signed accordingly. For the moment, nothing confirms this allegation, and it could also be a reserve clause, which would only apply in the best case scenario.
Nintendo's crazy plan
We already know that Super Mario Bros. The film has a sequel scheduled for April 1, 2026 (more than a year!) and other films related to the plumber's universe are in discussion at Nintendo. It wouldn't be surprising if Japan's richest company invested more in the film industry, especially with a franchise as lucrative as Zelda. However, moving forward with a trilogy now would be a pretty crazy bet.
Indeed, nothing predicts the commercial success of the first installment, which has only just been announced and of which we currently have no images. It turns out that the Super Mario Bros. movie did very well, and so did another animated video game icon (hello Sonic), but every adaptation comes with its own set of challenges. Zelda's audience is actually much more mature than the one for the red-capped, mustachioed character, making it more suited to a very young audience as well as older fans. Zelda's art direction has also changed quite a bit over Nintendo's installments, so it remains to be seen which one will inspire the feature film, a choice that almost didn't have to be made. make the studio for Mario.
Pure Zelda
Content-wise, no new information has been shared by the insider. We know that the film will be directed by Wes Ball, the director behind the Labyrinth films, and that it will be produced by Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, as well as Avi Arad, known for having headed Marvel for a few years.
Nothing surprising from the synopsis: the film will follow the hero Link, who rescues Princess Zelda in the world of Hyrule, of which he is the protector. The press release explains:
