Originally optional, creating a Microsoft account has become an almost mandatory step for anyone who wants to fully use a company product, whether it's an Xbox console or a computer running Windows 11. Those who refuse to do so find ways around it from time to time, but they are quickly removed by the Redmond company. Now that this basic operation is established, the latter is tackling the form.

“In recent years, we have modernized user experience for cloud-connected apps on Windows, Xbox, M365, and more. Additionally, with the arrival of new authentication methods, like passkeys, we also decided to rethink the login user experience,” explains Robin Goldstein from Microsoft. The new interface, visible in the screenshot below, several objectives.
It must first harmonize the experience between Microsoft's different services. Then, it emphasizes modern login methods like passkeys. The first time you log in, you'll have the option to create one, although it's not mandatory. Finally, the interface meets modern requirements with the long-awaited arrival of a dark mode. A simple option that users have been asking for for years.
The new interface will be rolled out in waves. Already Available on Xbox, it will then arrive on the web and mobile, before ending with Windows by the end of April 2025. At that point, approximately 95% of users will benefit from it according to Microsoft.
