Gemini continues to evolve at high speed and become more and more comprehensive. Google has just enabled a free feature that allows everyone to create their own personalized assistant.
With Gemini, Google offers a whole bunch of advanced functions that were previously reserved for its paying subscribers. Conversation memory, integration into several services, the free version of the AI becomes so complete that one can legitimately wonder if the Premium version remains essential. The tool takes the form of a true personal assistant, capable of adapting to various uses according to the needs of each individual. It is in this logic that Google announces the arrival of free “Gems” in its Gemini application. These custom AI assistants, once reserved for Google One AI Premium subscribers, are now open to all Android and iOS users. Each Gem operates independently, with its own instructions and own behavior. You can choose from several predefined templates or create a fully customized assistant based on a specific use, whether it's writing, coding, or even helping with learning.
Gemini Gems are becoming free and accessible on mobile, but their creation remains limited to the web.
Gems function as personalized versions of the Gemini assistant. Google offers several ready-to-use ones: a coach to learn more easily, a partner for coding, a career guide, a text editor, or even an assistant to find ideas. The user can also create their own assistant from the web version, giving it a name, precise instructions and even up to ten files to enrich their responses. Each of them can thus adopt a different tone or specialization depending on the tasks to be performed.
On mobile, Gems are accessible from the Gemini application by clicking on the profile photo, then in the “Gem Manager” menu, or via the side menu on the left, where We also find the conversation history.
It is therefore possible to use them everywhere, but their creation still requires a computer via the site gemini.google.com. With this now free feature, Google is clearly positioning itself against OpenAI. The latter offers a similar service with its personalized GPTs, but it reserves it for ChatGPT Plus subscribers at 20 euros per month. By making Gems accessible to all, Google continues to democratize artificial intelligence while retaining its users with powerful tools at no extra cost.
