The electric car market in China is evolving rapidly, driven by new players from the tech sector. These brands rely on connectivity, autonomy, and power to attract drivers. But in the face of international competition, safety remains a fundamental criterion. Crash resistance tests allow models to be objectively compared, assessing their ability to protect passengers and pedestrians in different situations.

Xiaomi has just proven that it takes this criterion very seriously. Its first electric vehicle, the SU7 sedan, has just been awarded a five-star crash test by the Chinese C-NCAP program. This isn't just a good result: the SU7 Max, the top-of-the-range version of this model, has the best score of the year 2024, with an 93.5% overall score. For comparison, the BYD Seal, one of its main Chinese competitors, obtained 91.2%, and the Volkswagen ID.4 X, also tested by C-NCAP, achieved 89.5%.

C-NCAP is the Chinese equivalent of the famous European Euro NCAP. It evaluates vehicle safety according to three criteria: occupant protection, pedestrian protection and driver assistance systems. The Xiaomi SU7 Max achieved exceptional scores in all categories: 94.31% for passengers, 90.42% for pedestrians, and 95.25% for active safety. The emergency brake assist, lighting efficiency, and the quality of the Xiaomi Pilot Max assistance system were praised. The vehicle's overall performance exceeds the average of other models tested by more than 8%.

Launched in March 2024, the SU7 has already sold more than 186,000 units. Xiaomi is even struggling to keep up with demand, with a waiting time of 11 months. The Max version, tested by C-NCAP, is equipped with a LiDAR system from the Hesai brand, combined with two electric motors for a total power of 664 horsepower. Its 101 kWh battery allows it to achieve a range of up to 800 km. With these results, the brand shows that it is capable of competing not only in technology, but also in safety.
