As promised, Volkswagen has finally unveiled the ID. Every1, its future €20,000 electric city car. With this vehicle, the ambitions are great: to relaunch the brand on the electric market, and compete with future benchmarks in the segment such as the Renault Twingo e-Tech.
Just a few days ago, Volkswagen shared the very first photos of its future low-cost electric car. With this new model, the manufacturer immediately displayed its ambitions: “Together with the production version of the ID. 2all, this new electric model will make up the new family of small electric cars developed under the aegis of the Brand Group Core within the Volkswagen group”.
If the ID. 2all is therefore planned to be placed in 2026 on a very specific price scale, namely around €25,000, this other city car will be responsible for opening the range, with a price set at around €20,000. To find out more about it, we had to wait until March 5, 2025. As promised, Volkswagen has just lifted the veil on this new car: the ID. Every1.
The ID. Every1, the electric car for “the people”
“Accessible to almost everyone”.This is how the CEO of the brand sums up the philosophy adopted with this ID. Every1. A car for everyone, from young drivers to the most experienced, from the most limited budgets to the most affluent, for individuals and professionals, you get the idea.
But to start this presentation, let's first look at the design of the car. The photos speak for themselves, the heritage of the Volkswagen Up is undeniable, with this ultra-compact format and its rather massive lines. However, it has some very unique features, such as the rather elegant rear quarter panel and the imposing front bumper.
The lights have also been reworked and give the car a rather sporty look. According to the car's chief designer Andreas Mindt, the idea was mainly to convey this impression of solidity and grounding.
“Our ambition was to create something bold, but accessible. The ID. Every1 looks confident but remains friendly – thanks to details such as the dynamic front lights and the “smiling” rear, says Andreas Mindt.
Large interior and honest performance
While we were unable to see the interior during the presentation, Volkswagen still shared a few photos in an official press release. This is an opportunity to get a glimpse of what awaits us on the production model coming in 2027.
Rather elegant, the interior gives pride of place to bright colors, with touches of gold on the seat belts, glove compartment, dashboard and air vents. Being an electric car, you will be able to benefit from a large central infotainment screen, as well as digital instrumentation behind the steering wheel. Regarding the latter, Volkswagen seems to have opted for the physical (a good point), with an avalanche of buttons located on the sides and stalks for the indicators.
Clearly, the interior will also be extremely modular, with the possibility of folding the rear and front seats to obtain a large trunk (305 liters as standard).
In terms of performance, we still know very little, but according to the manufacturer, this prototype already displays a top speed of 130 km/h via a brand new 70 kW electric motor installed at the front (95 hp). Regarding the range, it is around 250 km. As a reminder, the production model is expected in 2027 for around €20,000.
