We recently had the chance to test the Huntsman V3 Pro TKL keyboard, a big piece of hardware specially designed for gaming and especially for gamers looking for performance. By Razer's own admission, the Viper V3 Pro is the perfect companion for this keyboard. There's no doubt about it, Razer, like all brands, makes a point of making its hardware perfectly seamless. This is one of the reasons why we ended up with a Viper V3 Pro in our hands for a few days to put it through its paces. Let's be clear from the outset: while the osmosis between the different Razer peripherals is obvious, it's by no means mandatory. The Viper V3 Pro mouse is more than enough on its own. We're still talking about an excellent range mouse offered at the price of €179.99. It's still a good thing that it's capable of great solo prowess at this price.
Sober and elegant, the Viper V3 Pro doesn't do flashy things
It's sober, very sober, maybe even too much so. The Viper V3 Pro mouse is rather average in size (L 127mm x W 63.9mm x H 39.9mm) which ultimately puts it in the thick of the fray. As a result, its curves fall perfectly under the hand, even if, like your servant, you have large hands. Dressed all in black, the mouse's design remains very classic, in line with what the brand usually does, but it exudes a certain elegance. No engraving, no frills, and still no RGB, even though there certainly would have been room for it. We'll have to make do with the brand's logo, which will quickly be covered by our palm, and the very unusual angles of the two clicks that point out. The fact that the mouse can be ambidextrous doesn't help it stand out visually either, but in that respect, it's not such a bad thing. Moreover, while its symmetry makes it usable for both right-handed and left-handed players, it is right-handed players who will be the main target since the only two side buttons are on the left side of the mouse, on the inner edge.
Nothing really new then, since we've already seen it everywhere. The clicks are relatively large and sensitive, which makes it compatible with almost all hand positions. The scroll wheel, for its part, is a little large and very rough. This is not a bad thing, especially since its use is responsive whether scrolling or clicking on it. In the hand, the Viper V3 Pro is extremely pleasant. Extremely light, it only displays a tiny 54 grams on the scale. This places it below the Corsair M75 Air or the Asus ROG Harp, two excellent recent ultra-light mice (2023). Its excellent proportions and its refined design make it go everywhere. We might have asked for a little more madness given the pricing, at least the RGB, but whatever. In use, the mouse is very comfortable, the finishes are once again excellent and the materials are very well made. The glide is also impeccable, helped by very wide 100% PTFE pads which ensure grip and flexibility during movements. It should be noted that the use of a suitable mat makes the glide even smoother and above all precise. This is where the Viper V3 Pro mouse surprises.
Fearful precision, good customization
It's understated and very lightweight, and doesn't seem to want to stand out. Yet, it's clearly hiding its game well. The mouse actually features a new sensor, the 2nd Generation 35K Focus Pro. A long name for a great optical sensor capable of reaching up to 35,000 DPI (max speed at 750 fps, 70G acceleration. Yes, it's strong). It's completely off-the-wall, as it's so high, but it offers a wide range of customization options. The Viper V3 Pro is also flawless here, allowing you to customize the sensor's lifting or lowering distance to adjust its responsiveness to the nearest millimeter. To do this, simply take a look at the in-house software, Razer Synapse. A simple, clear menu and efficient interface. This is where you can adjust your sensitivity, take advantage of technology that allows you to smooth it dynamically, or even create profiles to be prepared for all situations. For once, the software offers enough tools to allow you to personalize your experience, even for the most picky players.
In short, the Viper V3 Pro mouse is an excellent ally for most games that require responsiveness and precision. Here, mainly used at the office, but also and especially on Valorant or League of Legends, it offers optimal performance to get the most out of your favorite games. Moreover, the meticulous customization of its sensitivity is not to be taken lightly since even the untrained eye will be able to feel a real difference in use on very precise games like Counter Strike 2 or Valorant for example.
Finally, on the connectivity side, the mouse is supplied with its adaptive dongle allowing it to work wirelessly and without any latency. A reinforced and braided USB-C cable is also part of the package if you don't want to put too much strain on the battery. But there's nothing to complain about with the latter since its battery life is excellent, it all depends on your usage settings, but expect at least about twenty hours at maximum speed, which isn't bad at all.
