Unstable games, falling performance: the last Nvidia driver poses a problem for RTX40

Unstable games, falling performance: the last Nvidia driver poses a problem for RTX40

When you own a gaming PC and a game isn't running as it should, one of the first pieces of advice the internet often gives is to update your graphics card drivers. This is a great idea, because if the version of the game installed on the computer requires a more recent version of the drivers, performance will be completely poor.

So this advice is valid most of the time. But like every rule has an exception, some video game developers encourage their players to Do not install the latest drivers for Nvidia graphics cards.

Two generations of cards affected

The affected drivers are number 572. As noted by Wccf tech, the developers of two very recent games are advising their players not to install this driver. These are the teams of InZoi, a real-life simulator released on March 28, and The First Berserker: Khazan, a Dark Souls-like released on March 27,

In both cases, the developers seem to be reacting to problems with stuttering or drops in display frequency. Affected players seem to be mainly playing on RTX 40 generation cards, since for these cards, it is recommended that they upgrade to Driver version 566.36, released in December 2024.

For potential buyers of the latest RXT 50 cards, don't panic, the latest driver doesn't seem to cause any issues with these two games. As for users of older cards, only the RTX30s are mentioned. In the latter case, the problem seems marginal since the developers recommend the latest driver, but also indicate that in the event of a problem, you must install an earlier version (566.36).

If you are affected by these performance issues, you may be tempted by these solutions. To install older drivers, nothing could be simpler, go to the dedicated driver page on the Nvidia website. You will have to accept one important concession, however: installing an older driver forces you to do without the recent Nvidia application, which is itself necessary for using certain recent features. However, it is probably better to be older to do without the latest DLSS layer and be able to play smoothly.

You can also wait to launch these games. Nvidia is certainly working on its next drivers and should logically eventually offer a version that does not cause performance issues.
