Star Wars: The first images of the next game have leaké, it's going to be huge

While the official announcement is expected at the next Star Wars Celebration in April, images of a brand new Star Wars game have leaked online. This project, still not publicly revealed, would be the turn-based strategy game, developed in collaboration by Respawn Entertainment and the Bit Reactor studio. And judging by the first screenshots, the influence of the XCOM saga is hard to ignore. We were able to tell you about it in our article on the strategy game everyone dreams of.

A well-known formula adapted to the Star Wars universe

The images, spotted in the portfolio of a Bit Reactor artist, reveal gameplay typical of the tactical genre. The player controls a squad of characters in an environment structured by squares, each unit having a limited number of actions per turn. This type of mechanic, well known to fans of XCOM or Mario + Rabbids, seems to be applied here to the Star Wars universe with real attention to detail.

Among the visible elements: a visibly playable Mandalorian, aiming at a Republic clone trooper. All with a probability attack strength displayed at 95%. At the bottom of the interface, other combat options are present, such as the use of a thermal detonator, the equivalent of a grenade in this universe. We can also see the famous "overwatch" function well known to tactics fans. A defensive stance allowing you to automatically retaliate if an enemy enters the field of vision.

A central hub and several additional functions

Between two missions, players can take a breather little in what seems to be a real headquarters. But with a Star Wars twist. A base that can be managed as you wish. With several interactive areas such as the armory, a holographic table (the famous Holotable), special operations or even a black market. All of this clearly evokes the well-established mechanics of XCOM. This type of structure helps to reinforce the strategic management aspect, and to bring a real rhythm between the combat phases.

This project had never been revealed before officially, even though we have known for a while that Respawn has been working on several Star Wars games. The new title, known internally by the code name “Bruno”, has reportedly been in development since at least 2023. The images released in recent days reportedly date from precisely this period. The project is said to have taken shape after the cancellation of another game, a shooter centered on a Mandalorian bounty hunter, abandoned in February 2024.

To bring this new adventure to life, Respawn has surrounded itself with the Bit Reactor studio. A name that is still discreet, but composed largely veterans of the XCOM license. Suffice to say that the choice seems obvious, especially for a game that relies on turn-based strategy
