In addition to the Moohan project, the mixed reality headset, also called Galaxy XR, that Samsung has been working on for months – it was exhibited at the end of January and we recently had a very close look at it – the Korean company is working on another, less bulky augmented reality device: smart glasses.
Samsung had already confirmed that it was collaborating with Google on such a product. A recent article from ET News provides new information on this subject. According to this publication, the project is codenamed Haean. Above all, the source claims that these glasses from Samsung Electronics will be presented (but not necessarily marketed) during the year.
A launch planned for this year
However, according to our colleague, the company has not, at this stage, finalized either the design or the specifications of this pair. However, it does not rule out a launch concurrent with that of the Galaxy XR headset.
ETNews is unfortunately stingy with technical details. It only talks about a pair of glasses with a screen integrated into the lenses to display information or images; mentions a camera module and a speaker; expresses the desire to integrate "cameras and sensors capable of recognizing movements" in order to limit the use of physical buttons as much as possible.
Exclusively voice and gesture controls?
Some observers have interpreted this direction as Samsung's desire to focus exclusively on interactions through gestures or voice commands. With the desire to distinguish its smart glasses from others already available on the market. For comparison, Meta's Ray-Ban has a button for taking a photo and a touch surface for volume and multimedia playback; Glasses like Solos' are button-free but retain touch surfaces. However, according to the publication, it is still too early to confirm this particularity: unless there is a translation error, there is nothing to confirm the total absence of buttons.
We will therefore have to wait to see more clearly. For now, the only concrete elements are limited to the following: Samsung plans to market connected glasses, developed under the code name Haen. And they're likely to be in the news again in the near future.
