On Canal+, the 4K will cost more

Last January, Canal+ overhauled its pricing structure. Officially, the company wanted to make its offerings clearer and more accessible. New prices, the disappearance of Paramount+ by default, the encrypted channel also and above all wanted to emphasize the benefits of its subscription plans. Reward loyalty... but at the expense of those who cannot benefit from them through their operators and internet providers.

Last February, Free customers highlighted the disappearance of UHD HDR streams and Dolby Atmos from their offers. According to the new Canal+ pricing structure, these options are reserved for those who are ready to subscribe for two years. Except that some Free customers were unable to make this commitment within their internet box package. When asked about the situation last February, the company told us:

They're back!

Good news, these technologies are coming back. Canal+ and Free had already hinted that a solution in the form of a paid option would be offered to affected customers, without specifying the details. We now know a little more, report our colleagues at Numériques. Two choices are available to those who wish to benefit from the best possible quality and to share their access with other members of their household. Initially, for access to UHD and Dolby Atmos, you will have to pay 5 euros more per month. It will also be possible to benefit from an additional profile to access two streams simultaneously.

The other option will cost 10 euros and promises the same technologies on compatible content, but this time with two additional streams, i.e. three profiles that can watch content on Canal+ at the same time. The company is therefore falling in line with its American competitors, making certain features arguments in favor of a subscription with a commitment or an additional cost.

For several years, home entertainment companies have been increasing changes to their offerings, initially including advertising and then using lighter versions of their packages to attract more customers. Canal+ has not yet given in to the call of advertising via its streaming offers, but is part of the industry's trend. For now, this option only applies to Free subscribers. For customers who wish to enjoy UHD directly via the Canal+ store, the 24-month commitment is the only possible option.
