A few days ago, 2XKO, the fighting game in the League of Legends universe, was leaked on a Discord channel aimed at dataminers. Shortly after, Riot Games released a long "Developer Diary"-style video to make a big announcement, supplemented by Q&A sessions with the community. Unfortunately, they risk blowing hot and cold with players curious to see the result.
League of Legends 2XKO is preparing for a small-scale launch
Although League of Legends 2XKO doesn't yet have a release date, it seems to be getting closer. In a recent Dev Update, Riot Games provided further details on how its tag team fighting game will work. It will also be possible to try all of this out from April 18th to 20th via an Alpha Test Lab phase... provided you reside in Brazil, Canada, or the United States. The rest of the world will unfortunately have to wait their turn.
Then, via Q&A sessions during a stream from fighting game specialist Sajam and on the game's official Discord, we received further details on the number of playable characters available at launch for League of Legends 2XKO. Again, things will apparently be done in a small group, since we're talking about 10 champions, in all. A developer present on Sajam's stream had this to say about it: "I know it's a pretty low number. But, honestly, we want to deliver the game to you as quickly as possible, rather than making you wait to inflate the number of champions. Remember, this is a service game. As soon as it's released, the train of new champions will immediately start rolling. ".
For now, we know seven of the ten champions that will make up the starting roster of League of Legends 2XKO: Ahri, Braum, Darius, Ekko, Illaoi, Jinx, and Yasuo. That leaves only three unknown champions. We could learn more about this at Summer Game Fest 2025, scheduled for early June, or at EVO, the competitive fighting game convention, coming in August.
