Forget Pokémon: here are the Magic Bob cards the sponge

Forget Pokémon: here are the Magic Bob cards the sponge

With its seemingly endless crossovers, Magic the Gathering is to card games what Fortnite is to video games: a comparison that is far from pejorative. By giving players the ability to customize their decks with cards inspired by their favorite universes, Magic offers more diversity than any other TCG on the market. The collaborations offered by Wizards of the Coast can take two different forms. Sometimes they are full-fledged expansions – as is the case for Doctor Who, Fallout or even The Lord of the Rings – while other licenses are invited in the form of Secret Lairs.

These are variants of cards existing in other sets, embellished with alternative visuals adapted to the effects of the cards in question. After Dungeons & Dragons, Ghostbusters or even Hatsune Miku, it is now SpongeBob SquarePants' turn to benefit from its own Secret Lair sets. On this occasion, the iconic characters, landscapes and memes from the cartoon come to illustrate essential cards from the Magic the Gathering meta.

Three sets of cards as colorful as they are fun

To celebrate its 25th anniversary in style, SpongeBob SquarePants is offering not one but three sets of Secret Lair cards. Each set is available on the official Magic Secret Lair website for 34.98 euros for the classic version and 44.98 euros for the holographic version. The holographic versions of the cards are already almost sold out, so don't delay. Place your order if these crazy designs catch your eye.

The Legends of Bikini Bottom pack features a reskin of 7 super-powered creatures from Magic the Gathering, now sporting the appearance of SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick, Squidward, Sandy, Gary, Mr. Krabs, and Plankton. A second pack called Internet Sensations is inspired by the biggest memes from the cartoon to make the game's spells even more fun... and frustrating. Finally, the latest pack offers a copy of each basic land in the game, represented here by iconic locations from Bikini Bottom and its surrounding areas.

As with the other Secret Lair collaborations, these cards are released exclusively in English. This shouldn't be a problem for regular Magic players who are used to using cards in that language, however. Magic's next collaboration will be a full-fledged expansion dedicated to the Final Fantasy franchise. This one will be released in French (with the exception of the Collector's Edition Commander decks).
