Avengers: Doomsday, the casting is not yet complete!

On Wednesday, March 26, Marvel brought its viewers together for a live event on its social media. For nearly six hours, the House of Ideas unveiled the cast of its next cinematic event: Avengers: Doomsday. With filming chairs placed side by side and ten minutes between each name, fans' patience was put to the test. Were they rewarded? Surprises were rather thin, as the first film in the diptych already promised to unite several superhero universes, from the Fantastic Four to the X-Men to the iconic Avengers. Pedro Pascal, Ian McKellen, Florence Pugh, and Channing Tatum were among the names unveiled last night live.

In front of the Russo brothers' camera, it's truly a gigantic superhero reunion that will be immortalized. While the cast of Infinity War and Endgame was already dizzying, Marvel is going even further with 27 actors already reprising their roles. Some will be making their first appearance in the MCU, like James Marsden to play Cyclops and Rebecca Romjin to reunite with Mystique. But quickly, the question arises of other important members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe who were not invited... even though their films had an obvious link to the multiverse and its secrets.

Where is Doctor Strange?

His last film adventure was called In the Multiverse of Madness, he helped Spider-Man defeat all of the web-slinger's enemies from other realities in No Way Home, and yet Stephen Strange doesn't seem to have been invited to the party. Surprisingly, he was one of the first actors to hint that he would be returning for this fifth film. But these statements were made before Jonathan Majors' departure and the reworking of the project to include Doctor Doom. On the other hand, Spider-Man's absence seems much less surprising, as the character was forgotten by everyone close to him after the fate of Doctor Strange. We can also note the absence of Hulk, who was nevertheless at the epicenter of the artwork accidentally published a few weeks ago. Everything suggests that Marvel saved the best for last.

An exchange between Robert Downey Jr and Marvel Studios adds credence to this theory. Under the recap video of the announcements, which lasts less than two minutes, we can read “It’s what we call a talent pool… actually, it’s more of a bench, but extra long. It must be good, right?” The company’s official account responds in a completely enigmatic manner, implying that we are still far from knowing everything about this epic adventure. “Robert Downey Jr, there’s always room for more”. As one might expect, there was no question of delivering the entire cast on a plate to future viewers. It remains to be seen whether the announcement will be made at another event of this kind or whether the company will keep the identity of the other characters invited a surprise until the last moment.

So, see you on April 29, 2026 at the cinema to find out if Marvel has kept a secret about the majority of the cast of its multiversal adventure, or if it is with Secret Wars that the missing characters like Peter Quill, Hawkeye or even The Eternals will return. For the latter, it seems quite compromised.
