Since its announcement and the confirmation that Assassin’s Creed Shadows would feature a black samurai, as well as a female shinobi character, the absurd controversies of the "anti-woke" have continued to flourish and spit on the game for all possible and unimaginable reasons. It is therefore in a rather glacial climate that the Ubisoft teams had to finish the development of the game, with moments that, we imagine, must not have been easy.
Although imperfect, Assassin’s Creed Shadows still offers qualities and should clearly please regulars of the license. In any case, the Assassin’s Creed series and brand still seem to attract players since the game’s launch was a real success.
More than a million players since the game’s launch
UPDATE MARCH 28, 2025:
One week after the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows's success continues unabated. Ubisoft proudly announces that more than 3 million players have now enjoyed Yasuke and Naoe's adventure. Ubisoft confirmed the news across all of its social media channels. In addition to the number of players, Assassin’s Creed Shadows remains a success in terms of sales and revenue, as it is now the installment in the Assassin’s Creed saga that has had the best start, surpassing the immense successes of Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (currently the best-selling game in the saga).
UPDATE MARCH 25, 2025:
The excellent success of Assassin’s Creed Shadows is confirmed day by day! Last week, we learned that since its launch, the title had attracted more than a million players in less than 24 hours. A few hours later, it was more than 2 million players in less than 48 hours.
Today, the first figures are in. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the second biggest launch in the history of the saga in terms of revenue, just behind Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. On the PlayStation Store, it is simply the biggest launch of a Ubisoft game. On Steam, the game continues to reign at the top of the sales charts with "extremely positive" ratings.
The game has also become the most successful Assassin’s Creed game on Steam, surpassing the figures for Valhalla, Oddyssey and Origins. This is an even bigger feat considering that all previous Assassin's Creed games were typically released in October or November around the holiday season and Thanksgiving. For its part, Shadows is launching in March, which is quite unusual for the Assassin’s Creed series and, above all, a slower period for the video game industry.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE:
Last month, Ubisoft confirmed that pre-orders for Assassin’s Creed Shadows were doing very well, to the point of being the second best pre-orders in the history of the saga, behind Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, which to date has the highest pre-order rate.
This seems to be confirmed since Ubisoft confirmed on its official Twitter/X account that the million player mark had been crossed in less than 24 hours: “It’s not even 4 p.m. here in Canada, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows has already surpassed one million players!.
Unlike previous Ubisoft game releases, the French publisher listened to the community and offered Assassin’s Creed Shadows from the day of its release on Steam, and not exclusively on the Ubisoft launcher. This seems to have paid off since the game immediately reached the top 1 in sales.
Thus, Assassin’s Creed Shadows achieved a historic record of 41,412 simultaneous connected players at its launch, doubling the figures for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which is, to date, the best-selling Assassin’s Creed game in the history of the saga. To date, the records are still held by Assassin’s Creed Origins with 41,551 players and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey with a peak of 62,069 players. But, it's still very solid for a launch.
This shows that these figures clearly show that the absurd controversies on social networks and especially Twitter are far from being a representation of reality. One last point, the game is currently rated with "very positive" feedback from players on Steam.
