The OnePlus Open 2 would have a photo functionality absent from the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra

A new indiscretion reveals that the OnePlus Open 2 would have a macro mode on its telephoto lens, a feature still absent from the premium models from Google, Apple and Samsung.

A macro telephoto lens for the OnePlus Open 2?

The OnePlus Open 2, which should be the international version of the OPPO Find N5 which promises to be extremely thin, would benefit from a macro mode via its telephoto lens. Unlike the ultra-wide-angle sensors often used for macro photography, this technology would make it possible to capture details while remaining at a distance from the subject. An approach that avoids annoying shadows or obstructed light, frequent problems in traditional macro mode.
This feature remains rare on the market. For example, Google and Apple do not yet integrate it into their telephoto lenses, while the Huawei P60 Pro, the Vivo X100 Ultra and the Sony Xperia 1 VI have already successfully tested this approach. Even the recently tested Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra does not benefit from such a configuration.

A new standard for folding smartphones

Beyond this innovation in photography, several rumors are circulating about the specifications of the OnePlus Open 2. It could be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite, a 5900 mAh battery with 80W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. For the photo part, it would have three 50 MP sensors, marking an evolution compared to its predecessor, the OnePlus Open, which integrated a main sensor of 48 MP, a 3x periscope of 64 MP and a 48 MP ultra-wide-angle.

The official release date remains unknown, but some rumors mention the second half of 2025. In any case, the OnePlus Open 2 (and its cousin the Oppo Find N5) are to be watched closely for all those who expect even more innovations in the small world of foldable smartphones.
