Buying a new smartphone can be a bit of a stressful experience. How do you navigate the different features, are you sure you're making the right choice, and not wasting your money? To reassure themselves, some people can turn to the field of smartphone rental, offered by various brands in France such as Next Mobile, Mobile Club or even good old brands like Fnac and Boulanger.
But according to the Korean media ET News, renting a Galaxy S25 directly from Samsung could soon become a reality.
Indeed, during CES 2025, Samsung Electronics Vice President Jong-Hee Han declared "We will apply the subscription service to Galaxy smartphones starting next month".
More precisely, this subscription service will be called "AI Subscription Club" (AI Subscription Club in good French). This should not be seen as a desire to make Galaxy AI, its set of AI features unveiled with the Galaxy S24, chargeable, although we will come to that. The addition of the AI mention is used to indicate that the subscription will only apply to devices capable of embedding Galaxy AI.
For now, this new subscription should not be launched in Europe, as the brand seems to be focusing on two key markets, Korea and the United States.
A way to boost acquisition and sales
The Korean brand will also take the opportunity to launch its AI companion robot, Boli, in the United States and Korea. The robot will be provided as a subscription in the peninsula.
The Korean media specifies that Samsung's objective is to target buyers who tended to pay for their smartphones in installments, with the stress that goes with it. With a subscription, the company hopes to convince them more easily and increase its sales.
The AI Subscription Club has already been launched in Korea on December 1, 2024 for household appliances. And Samsung is said to be satisfied with the initial feedback, with 30% of sales going through the subscription.
