Mark Zuckerberg held a big meeting yesterday at Meta with all the employees of the group. It should have remained confidential, but it was a waste of time: the company boss's words and statements were obviously leaked. And it was on this occasion that we learned that the Ray-Ban connected glasses had exceeded one million units sold last year.
A figure on success
Until now, Meta and its partner EssilorLuxottica had never revealed the extent of the success of these products. EssilorLuxottica had simply indicated that these glasses had reached the enviable status of bestseller in more than half of its European stores. During this famous meeting, Mark Zuckerberg added: "I think one of the questions for us is: are we going to go from 1 million this year to 2 million? Are we going to go from 1 million to 5 million?».
Meta's CEO is not short of ambition for this range, which should be available in new Oakley models better suited to athletes during the year. There is also a desire to launch a model integrating a small screen capable of displaying notifications. For the moment, Ray-Ban glasses are content to communicate with the user via audio.
Zuckerberg was also pleased with the fact that Meta has "practically invented this category, and our competitors are not really in the race yet". Apple is said to be interested in similar connected glasses, combining Siri and AirPods, and other manufacturers are also in the running. While waiting for these competitors to arrive, "we have free rein to move forward and make Meta AI glasses known to as many people as possible. We should take advantage of it”.
