It's not really a surprise since the announcement was telegraphed by rumors, but here we are finally: Lenovo has indeed lifted the veil on the Legion Go S, a new portable console whose particularity is to run on SteamOS.
Fierce competition for the Steam Deck
The device integrates an 8-inch 1920 x 1200 LCD screen with a variable refresh rate (VRR) up to 120 Hz, 16 GB of RAM, 512 GB of storage, a microSD slot, two USB4 (USB-C) ports with fast charging up to 65 W, a jack port, a battery with a capacity of 55 Whr, all powered by the new Z2 Go chip presented by AMD yesterday.
The console also benefits from Hall sticks, which will therefore not suffer the throes of drifting. Release scheduled for May, at a price of $500, which is in the same range as the Steam Deck. Valve helped integrate SteamOS into the console, because even if the Legion Go S directly competes with the Steam Deck, in the end the player will buy their games on Steam and therefore pay a commission to Valve… It’s a win-win!
It’s far from over for the Legion Go S range, which welcomes other models this time under Windows 11. They are equipped with a choice of Z1 Extreme chips and Z2 Go, up to 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. This “ultimate” version will cost $730, then a version with 16GB of RAM will be released for $600.
Finally, Lenovo has dangled a prototype of the Legion Go 2 with its two detachable controllers like on the first generation. This version features an 8.8-inch 144Hz VRR display, a Z2 Extreme chip, 32GB of RAM, and ergonomic improvements for the TrueStrike controllers, storage (up to 2TB) and 74Whr battery.
