Binaural sounds, relaxation ... Is the new "Opera Air" web browser a joke?

After Opera GX and Opera One, here comes Opera Air. Opera has just announced the arrival of yet another web browser. But this time, it’s not about offering features primarily aimed at gamers or artificial intelligence enthusiasts. Opera Air is presented as “the first web browser designed around the concept of mindfulness”. Just that.

Opera Air, a web browser that wants the best for you

Let’s be honest, Opera Air is nothing more than Opera with a lot of marketing: “This new browser integrates calming and research-based mindfulness features, such as breathing exercises, binaural beats and inspiring positive quotes” explains the publisher in a blog post. To finish helping you “feel good,” Opera Air adopts a “minimalist Scandinavian design and a frosted glass user interface that adapts to the background.” Opera Air is “the first browser with mindfulness at its core.” A real revolution (no).

Among the “well-being” features it includes, Opera Air will offer you breathing exercises, neck exercises, meditation sessions, as well as “full body scans.” In concrete terms, it’s a guided routine during which “you literally focus on different parts of your body and become aware of how you’re currently feeling.” This Full Body Scan, which is announced to last between 7 and 15 minutes, aims to provide you with a moment of relaxation.

In addition to these "well-being breaks", Opera Air also includes a Boosts function that plays sounds that are supposed to help you relax. All of these Boosts are set to a default duration of thirty minutes, but it is entirely possible to customize this.
To top it all off, Opera Air plays the philosopher by displaying “inspirational” quotes in the Speed Dial, “to brighten your day”.

While it seems quite difficult to know if all this paraphernalia has a real impact on your well-being, one thing is certain, Opera Air does not really seem to be designed to boost your productivity.
