Apple pays $ 20 million to avoid a trial on the inflated batteries of the Apple Watch

There’s not much space in the Apple Watch cases. All the components are meticulously installed like a sardine can. If one of them starts to move or even swell, it can cause serious problems. Apple Watch users (from the 2015 Series 0 to the Series 3) have filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer in California, because of batteries that swell, damaging components like the screen.

In order to avoid having to go through a trial and other legal complications, Apple has reached an amicable agreement with the plaintiffs. The company is ending the class action in exchange for a check for $20 million. US users of the Apple Watch models in question who reported a battery problem will be eligible for compensation of between $20 and $50. By accepting this sum, users also agree not to file a complaint against Apple regarding this battery problem.

Apple nevertheless wants to emphasize "the safety and reliability" of its watches. "This settlement applies to purchasers of the original Apple Watch, as well as Series 1, Series 2, and Series 3 models, which are no longer available for sale," the manufacturer told Cnet. "While we strongly disagree with the allegations made against these early generations of Apple Watches, we have agreed to reach a settlement in order to avoid further litigation," it added.

The IT group regularly uses its checkbook to extinguish this type of class action. The latest example: in early January, Apple paid nearly $100 million to settle a complaint about Siri. Which also prompted a text explanation to quell the criticism.
